Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian[a]eunuch,an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). Acts 8:26-27
There are times in our lives when God will ask us to do someting that seems unfamiliar. Times when it would make sense to ask "why?" rather than simply respond in faith like we see with Philip. I don't know about you, but sometimes I can tend to be an overanalyzer and I like to know all the information on the front end. I love to think through every little detail and weigh options. Other times, I easily and boldy jump into action and then suffer with the decision afterward because I wasn't obedient to God's perfect timing. This verse reminds me that obedience is the key to success when it comes to our faith, walk with God, and our action and timing is pivotal. Philip never asked why, he simply obeyed because he both knew and trusted the one giving the order. He also responded with a sense of urgency and went out immediately as he was instructed and without all the details up front.
When we are walking closely with the Lord, His voice and direction becomes more clear and we are better able to trust His leading. When we learn to truly listen and then respond in trust, the outcome is success and the growth of our faith. We must understand that there are people attached to our obedience-- people that we will bless, encourage, encounter, or even ourselves be blessed by. The choice is ours to take that step and do so without hesitation. May we be people who become so in tune with God's voice that when He says "go" we go, when He says "stay" we stay, and when He says "wait", we wait. May we live with an urgency to obey and with the expectancy for divine set ups.
Heavenly Father,
Open my ears to hear you, my eyes to see you, and my heart to receive your love so that I may trust you and walk in obedience and do all that you ask and desire of me. Transform my heart and mind and align them with yours. Help me to be a person of faith and quick response to your word. Use me to reach others for your glory and be a carrier of your presence.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
